“The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled.” Plutarch

I’m all fired up to publish this response to Steve Goldberg’s “What playlist would you put together based on the elements?”

I decided to focus on the element of fire mainly because my star sign is a fire sign. Plus fire seems edgier than water, wind and earth.

So, without further ado, let’s fire off.

1. Great Balls of Fire by Georgia Gibbs (1957)

“Great Balls of Fire” may be Jerry Lee Lewis’s signature tune, but Georgia Gibbs released a version the same year and it’s poppin’!

Born Frieda Lipschitz in Massachusetts in 1919, Georgia Gibbs was in her late 30s when she released “Great Balls of Fire”. She started her singing career in vaudeville at the age of 13 and later became known for her vocal and stylistic versatility, performing swing, jazz and rock ’n’ roll numbers.

Gibbs’s talents are clearly demonstrated in this recording of “Great Balls of Fire”.
