The Arse End of the World, Upside Down Land, Half America/Half England, Place Where Everything Kills You. These are just some of the names my overseas friends have called Australia.

But we’re actually a pretty bloody top-shelf country.

For now, I live overseas because, like Australia, I’m wild and free. But one day I’ll be back.

There are plenty of things I miss about Australia that make me get all weepy and patriotic and needing to listen to Peter Allen songs on Qantas ads.

These are some of those things.

1. Nature

After my family and friends, the thing I miss most about Australia is the nature.

Australian nature is fucking awesome. The beaches are stunning, the animals are adorable (even the ones that can kill you) and nothing beats the smell of the Australian bush.

An Indigenous man told me his people get sick if they stay in the city too long. And I believe him. As soon as I go to the bush and inhale some fresh eucalyptus, I feel an enormous sense of well-being. Then I make a fire with some eucalyptus logs, sip a beer and gaze up at the Southern Cross as I wait for my kangaroo to grill.
