Challenge accepted! Well, I’m jumping on the bandwagon a little late for this one. But better late than never, they say, whoever the heck they are.

Also, I don’t know which wonderful writer originated this challenge and who, if anyone, tagged me. Make yourself known in the comments and I’ll edit this story to link to your piece.

First things first. My name is Nichola. If I was a boy, I was going to be called Luke. But I was a girl, so my parents named me Nichola. I was born in England, where the name is not entirely unknown. In some countries, like Italy, Nicola is a boy’s name. But I’m a lady called Nichola.

My name is the feminine version of the popular male name, Nicholas, and means “victory of the people”. Yep, I’m a communist uprising and I’m coming to redistribute your wealth. So watch out!

Most people get my name wrong and leave out the “h”. Even family members. It’s particularly bemusing when they’re replying to an email and see my name correctly written right there in my email address and they still misspell it. This once moved me to write a…
