How I’d build a writers’ platform

Some of my favourite writers have been disappointed of late by a few of the goings-on on this platform. Well, I’ve given my noggin a scratchin’ and come up with some ideas of what I’d do in a magical, mystical world where I had the ability and means to build a writers’ platform.

My qualifications?

  • I’ve been a writer since I was eight when I wrote a story about three pegs who jumped off the washing line to explore the world.
  • I’ve been a reader since I was seven when I read my first “chapter book”. It was an Enid Blyton.
  • I’ve worked in IT since the late 90s so I know about building online solutions and technology and stuff.

As well as the obvious components of a writers’ platform, here’s what I’d include. And note, my musings are not intended to criticise this particular platform. They’re just some thoughts on what I’d do if I ran a writers’ platform.

Community and favourites

People on writers’ platforms value community just as much as they value (good) content. Writers and readers alike want to catch up with their online friends, whether it’s in the comments section or by being able to quickly and…
