This month, I went to a couple rock and grill nights at Poble Espanyol in Barcelona where you eat some grill and listen to some rock. I saw David Bowie, Queen, Kiss and Mötley Crüe tribute bands. All for a fraction of the cost you’d pay to see the originals!

The highlight for me was the Mötley Queens, an all-girl band that rocked as much as the original boys.

Mötley Queens come from Madrid. They tour Spain “all in the name of rock”. Well, Mötley Crüe’s first tour in seven years doesn’t go beyond the US and Canada, so someone’s got to cover Spain… There are a lot of hard rock fans here.

Mötley Queens are Judy Neil, Sonia Mars, Laury Sixx and Jess Lee.

The girls don’t drink beer but, upon request, a good supply of canned mineral water was provided for them. In other ways Mötley Queens totally channel Mötley Crüe. For one thing, I’ve never heard so much on-stage swearing, both in English and Spanish. Also, the band seems to have a great love for girls.

Following Mötley Queens was Kiss of Death, a Kiss tribute band dressed exactly like Kiss in their heyday.

Hailing from Barcelona, Kiss of Death was formed in 2010 by Jordy Stanley, whose life dream was to form a Kiss tribute band…
