I’m the same age as you but grew up in Australia. Like you, my friends were from all different backgrounds and we’re still friends. But there were also more racial slurs around that I don’t hear being used so much today. Also our television was mostly just white people and sometimes they’d do blackface on comedy shows. There didn’t seem to be any visibility of LGBT folks until I went to University. So some things have improved but I feel more anger around today too. Not sure if it’s because of social media, orange presidents or something else.
