An update on how I’m doing after commencing writing on Medium two months ago

I haven’t written quite as many articles as I’d hoped I would. I was aiming for one or two a week, but it’s been under one a week. Why’s that? Writing jobs for clients(which I prioritise, of course), social life, lack of motivation.

No more writing to please others

I found myself scrambling around trying to write articles that would please other people. But they didn’t please me. The article ideas I had were bland and not surprisingly what I wrote was bland. So I ditched that plan and began writing articles on topics that interested me (and hopefully others).

I’m also worrying less about offending people. It’s impossible to keep all of the people happy all of the time, and any attempt to do so is an exercise in “meh”.

Featured article

My very first article, Things to Throw Away, was featured! Well, it only had two internal views. And I’m not sure if it was featured. My Medium app says it was featured, but when I view the article stats it doesn’t mention being distributed.

Publicity

Last week I started using the friends links to share my articles on social media. This upped the views and reads, which…
