My last grandparent passed away this June in similar circumstances. Many families have no choice but to send their relatives to nursing homes but the standard of care in some of those places is terrible. We moved Grandma to a second place which wasn’t much better and then I think she just gave up. It’s comforting there’s people like you working as nurses.
