Once upon a time in the year 2009, I evidently had a lot of time on my hands because I went through every song in my CD collection and ranked them until I had a top 100.

Wow, there’s a lot of indie-pop in there. My tastes are probably a little more eclectic these days. Still, I reckon it’s a better list than any Triple J Hottest 100 this millennium.

I’d make a 2022 hottest 100, but I honestly can’t be bothered, so enjoy this list from 2009.

  1. Atomic — Blondie

2. Personal Jesus — Depeche Mode

3. Bizarre Love Triangle — New Order

4. Blue Monday — New Order

5. Disco 2000 — Pulp

6. Common People — Pulp

7. Hurt — Johnny Cash

8. Waterloo Sunset — The Kinks

9. Take On Me — Aha

10. First We Take Manhattan — Leonard Cohen

11. Fade to Grey — Visage

12. A Day in the Life — The Beatles

13. He’s on the Phone — Saint Etienne

14. Parklife — Blur

15. Heart of Glass — Blondie
