I read 52 books in 2021. I don’t know if that’s impressive or not. When I was a kid, in those heady pre-internet, pre-smartphone, pre-television on-demand days, I would have read 100 books a year without thinking. And certainly without counting.

I still love reading. I’m not sure why in recent years I cut back on reading to watch crap television and scroll through crap social media. I’m trying to do something about that, though. By challenging myself to read a book a week in 2020 and 2021, I rediscovered my love of reading. And I’m glad I did.

Honestly, if I wasn’t a reader, I wouldn’t be who I am or where I am today.

I still don’t have my pre-internet attention span, but I’ve read some damn good books that have made me cry, have made me laugh out loud like a nutter and have made my heart sing.

So, I thought I’d share with you the books I rated five stars in 2021, in case you’re looking for something good to read over the New Year’s break. And in case you need some help climbing out of your internet rabbit hole.

Titles are listed in alphabetical order because I didn’t want to play favourites with my favourite books.
