The Greatest Movies from My Birth Year I’ve Never Seen
Forget it, Nichola. It’s Chinatown.
I was born in 1974 — a great year for great movies. Sadly, I’ve seen hardly any of them. Not because I’m uninterested, I just never got around to seeing these films.
Until about 10 years ago, I was possibly the last customer at one of the last DVD rental stores in Melbourne. I was working my way through the classics when the store had to close because the $10 I paid to rent five movies a week wasn’t enough to keep the business going. The lovely couple who ran the store had a great selection and were always spot-on with their recommendations. We locals (it was actually more than just me) tried our best to support them, but when you can’t make rent, your business isn’t really viable.
I saw a lot of excellent movies, but there’s a huge chunk of movies from 1974 that are still on my to-watch list.
