While recently rifling through my computer, I found this little gem. It’s a small collection of my observations about adults, written when I was 13. This wasn’t schoolwork. It was something I wrote for fun. Because I was a nerd.

One day this could become a historical artifact. Photo by author.

Let’s take a closer look, shall we?

“To be interesting, adults must gather their knowledge by watching and memorizing the News.”

Why the American spelling of memorising? I must have been culturally imperialised. I do seem to recall that teachers never knew which spelling to teach us.

“Snipets [sic] of information are repeated to other adults and deep philosophical discussions are held.”

Hmm, I doubt anything that intelligent was taking place. But some of the adults in my life did fancy themselves as quite intellectual and loved the news. My dad still watches it about 100 times a day.

“Many ‘facts’ are made up or exagerated [sic].”
